1. APPROVAL
OF MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 24, 2009
" Minutes were approved as recorded.
2. CHAPTER UPDATES
Volunteer Hours
" Louise indicated she will log the volunteer hours for
the September and October meetings
Membership
" Kaywana has the memory stick flash drive from Myra and
will update the membership list with Alicia
" It was discussed that the welcome letter to new members
should go out asap along with the renewal form for expired members
and the invitation to rejoin CPF
Treasurer's
Report
" Roz mentioned that CPF Ontario has efunded CPF Hamilton-Wentworth
$240 for the French course materials at Norwood Park last spring
- both the school and the chapter paid for the materials which
caused an overpayment
" Kaywana mentioned that the French course has not run for
some time - possibly every 2 years in the future. It was mentioned
that it would be a good idea to poll parents regarding future
French courses to see if there is a need - all agreed to do so
at Frenchapalooza
Action Items:
" Prepare the poll re future French courses for the Frenchapalooza
event
Communications
" Roz indicated that she and Christel need help from the
committee distributing the upcoming newsletter to all schools
" Articles must be in to Roz by October 19th
Action Items:
" Kaywana will submit articles for the newsletter - Camp
Esprit for middle school, newly appointed FI Consultant for the
Separate School Board
" Roz to submit articles - Camp PetitesPommes, French in
the Future essay competition, Frenchapalooza, CPF on Facebook
" Christel to submit articles - Westfield Heritage French
tour in December
" Roz and Christel will approach their daughters re writing
an article on their French Exchange Program experience
3. UPCOMING
CHAPTER EVENTS
Frenchapalooza/French
Immersion Survival Night
" The event is set for Thursday, November 12th, 2009 from
6:30 to 8 p.m. at Dalewood Middle School
" Louise will meet with the Principal, Dave Hazell to discuss
event requirements - French Library will need to set up at 5
p.m. for the book sale in the foyer, they will require 5 to 6
long tables, CPF requires a screen, podium with microphone, table
for projector and laptop in the auditorium for the speakers (parent
portion), mats will be required in the gym for the entertainers
(children portion)
" The show from the performers in the gym will last approximately
1 hour - the cost is $195 + $40 travel - the duo travels via
GO and will need to be picked up at Columbia College - Louise
agreed to take this on
" Roz mentioned due to the fact that the entertainment in
the gym won't last as long as the event in the auditiorium, she
will approach Mary from PetitesPommers to see if she can fill
in the extra time entertaining the children for 15 minutes either
before or after the duo
" It was suggested that if Mary is not available perhaps
2 students could cover off both ends
" It was agreed that the committee should be at Dalewood
between 5:15 and 5:30
" It was agreed that a donation of $100 will be made by
CPF Hamilton-Wentworth to Dalewood Middle School towards their
Nutritious Snack Program as a "thank you" for hosting
Frenchapalooza
" Louise agreed to take care of coffee/urn, cream, sugar,
cups, water in a jug (plastic water bottles no longer allowed
in Hamilton Board of Education facilities)
" Roz will take care of cookies (possibly Girl Guide Cookies)
and speaker gifts (coffee cards)
" It was decided that Alicia would take care of posters
at Dundana and Louise at Dalewood
Westfield Heritage
Tour
" Christel was in contact with them as per Roz who reported
that there are 5 French tour guides and the best nights would
be a Saturday
" It was decided that December 5th from 5 to 9 p.m. would
be the best date - the cost would be $9.75 per adult and $5.75
for ages 6 to 12
Hamilton Reads
" Nothing to report at this time
French Concert
" Kaywana spoke with Helene Nicole and indicated she is
willing to come to Hamilton - Helene would go to each school
(up to grade 6) to perform for $3 per student ($1 would go to
CPF) possibly in February 2010
Action Items:
" Kaywana to follow-up with Helene Nicole re type of show
" Kaywana to check on date availability for February 2010
" Roz will include a small "plug" with photo on
upcoming newsletter
" Roz to arrange for a "plug" on First Class website
for teachers re French concert when details are finalized
Event for Middle
School
" Kaywana reported that there is a theatre group called
the Duffel Bag Theatre - they are putting on the 3 Musketeers
at $720 per show + $100 for audio visual equipment for a maximum
of 300 students @ $5 per student - this group would target grades
7 & 8 FI students and would be suitable for core French students
as well - possibly grade 9 students
" Would need to book a large facility for the Duffel Bag
Theatre to make it worthwhile
Action Items:
" Kaywana to follow-up with the Duffel Bag Theatre Group
and will work with Alicia on middle school event
" Kaywana to check on date availability for middle school
event
" Roz to check with Westdale Principal re venue for middle
school event
